Alejandro Garnacho chose to leave Manchester United for Premier League rivals Chelsea under controversial circumstances.
He sealed the move three days ago, and most fans had expected a bit of class from an academy product: an emotional note to the supporters was seen as a bare minimum.
They had to wait till Monday before the Argentine finally uploaded a video on his Instagram page, acknowledging the support he received from the Old Trafford faithful.
“Dear Mánchester, After an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close. We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this.
“To the coaches, staff, and my teammates, thank you for believing in me. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had.
“I leave proud of what we achieved together and excited for what’s to come. Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career.”
It was never supposed to end like this, given his fairytale rise through the ranks and his instant impact for the first team in Erik ten Hag’s first season at the club.
However, his off-field antics, including on social media, did not help, while Ruben Amorim’s arrival seemed to ring the death knell.
A change in system hampered the way the Argentina international wanted to play, but Amorim kept faith and even stopped him from leaving in January.
However, his explosive comments following the heartbreaking Europa League final defeat proved to be the final straw.
Amorim subsequently asked him to find a new club, and despite offers from abroad, the 20-year-old chose to join one of United’s rivals.
His comments upon his unveiling did not help matters, nor will this delayed post.
