Argentina are set to face Chile and Colombia on the 6th and 10th of September respectively for World Cup qualifiers.

Earlier on Monday, Scaloni’s squad was revealed and unsurprisingly, Garnacho and Martinez made the cut.

The United duo were part of the Argentina squad that won the Copa America this summer.

The Albiceleste beat Colombia 1-0 in the competition’s Miami final in July. Martinez was a key part of Scaloni’s set-up, having started five of the country’s six Copa America matches.

A testament to his contributions, Argentina did not concede a single goal while Martinez was on the pitch.

Garnacho made just one appearance in the tournament, coming on in the 66th minute of the final group-stage game against Peru, which they won 2-0.

Martinez started both United’s games in the Community Shield and more recently, the club’s Premier League opener vs. Fulham.

Against City, the no.6 was primarily deployed as a left-back but was restored to a more natural position vs. the Cottagers a week later.

In both United matches, Garnacho has started on the bench, with Erik ten Hag so far demonstrating a clear preference for a wing pairing of Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo.

Against City, Garnacho came on from the bench and had an instant impact as he broke the deadlock at Wembley. United would go on to lose on penalties. Garnacho converted from the spot-kick.

During the Fulham game, the young forward was also a bright spark when he was thrust into the proceedings in the second half, although he had a moment to forget when he failed to guide the ball into the back of an empty net after Rashford teed him up.
