Alan Shearer claims Rangers are already finished

Newcastle and England legend Alan Shearer has claimed today that Rangers are completely out of the title race, as if we didn’t know that already.

The player-turned-pundit and tyre pressure analyst was speaking to Betfair, when he offered the suggestion that Philippe Clement’s men were already out of the running.

He said:

“Rangers could well be out of the title race in Scotland now they are six points behind both Celtic and Aberdeen. That’s a big gap at any stage of the season in that league. We know that most of the time in Scotland, it’s Rangers vs Celtic, and whoever wins, it’s unacceptable for the other. But for Rangers to be that far behind after eight games means I would say they are out of the title race. The difference this season is you’ve got two teams going at it in both Celtic and Aberdeen, not just the usual one rival.Aberdeen are looking the real deal themselves, coming back from 2-0 down and nearly winning it against Celtic last weekend, so it looks a mountain to climb already for Rangers.”

He’s not wrong, of course, and become the latest high-profile English ex-player to dismiss Rangers in this season’s race, following ex-Ibrox striker Jermain Defoe saying much the same a few weeks ago.

But it’s nothing we don’t know.

Aberdeen alone are miles ahead of us, a ridiculous 6 points after 8 matches is diabolical from a Rangers point of view, no matter what level of backing the manager got in the window.

Indeed, supporters have lost faith in Clement simply because although he could be defended for being a bit off Celtic, that he’s miles behind Aberdeen as well who happen to have a fraction of his £16M budget, speaks volumes for his current incompetence.

There’s been no defending that.

And Shearer is only saying what we think – if we are that far behind after only 8 matches, you fear where this season is going under this manager.
