Chivas midfielder Alan Cervantes acknowledged that José Cardozo comparing him to Kevin De Bruyne ended up putting more pressure on him.

The 21-year-old, who is an option to start against Atlético San Luis with Michael Pérez missing out with a hamstring injury, did not make a single appearance last season.

“Of course it motivated me, obviously I didn’t expect it,” Cervantes admitted.

“Of course, it made me very happy, it filled me with confidence, but at the same time it filled me with responsibility to know that I had to respond to that comparison.

“In that sense, it affected me a little and suddenly I felt more pressure and more responsibility.

“But with experience and maturity, you end up learning how to handle things in the best way.

“My goals are to be a champion with Chivas, to be remembered as a Chivas star, and to be able to emigrate to Europe to have a career similar to that of Kevin De Bruyne.

“Right now, I don’t think so much about that, I’m focusing on being the better version of myself in the short and long term.”

Cervantes has made 20 Chivas appearances since arriving from Club León in January 2018, scoring once.
