Ajax’s match against RKC Waalwijk has been officially suspended due to a medical emergency on Saturday.

Sitting 3-2 in favour of the visitors with five minutes to go, the match was forced to be stopped after Brian Brobbey appeared to collide with the head of goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen.

The 28-year-old RKC Waalwijk player was seriously injured in the process and failed to get up requiring immediate attention from the medical staff.

Players on the pitch were visibly distraught and surrounded the situation to provide Vaessen with privacy from spectators before he was eventually stretchered off the pitch.

RKC Waalwijk later confirmed the match will be suspended and more updates are to come. Ajax have also provided a statement of support for the player’s recovery.
