Ajax defender Jorrel Hato has received his first senior Netherlands national team call-up at the age of just seventeen. At the beginning of the year, Hato was still playing with the Dutch U17 side. Eight months later, he’s part of the senior squad for the upcoming Euro Qualifiers. The Netherlands face Ireland and Gibraltar this month as they aim to secure their place in Euro 2024.

Jorrel Hato is without a doubt one of the most exciting talents in Europe at the moment. The 2006-born defender joined the Ajax academy in 2018 from his hometown club Sparta Rotterdam. Having featured 13 times for Jong Ajax, Hato was handed his senior debut in January. In February, he made his Eredivisie debut as a substitute in Ajax’s 5-0 win over Cambuur, becoming the third youngest player to debut for Ajax in the league at the age of just 16 and 335 days, behind Ryan Gravenberch and Clarence Seedorf.

Now, Netherlands national team boss Ronald Koeman has rewarded the youngster with a call-up. PSV midfielder Jerdy Schouten has also been included in the squad for the first time since June 2022 and Brian Brobbey keeps his spot.
