Ajax interested in 20-year-old Viborg right-back Anton Gaaei | OneFootball

De Telegraaf are reporting that Ajax are interested in Viborg right-back Anton Gaaei. Technical director Sven Mislintat is looking to strengthen the Ajax squad in several positions, and now he’s set his sights on a new right-back. Danish defender Anton Gaaei is being considered to fill that position.

Anton Gaaei featured 37 times in all competitions for Viborg FF last season. The 20-year-old Danish youth international provided six assists during his breakthrough season in first-team football. Gaaei is valued at around €4m and his current contract expires in 2026. Ajax’s Mexican right-back Jorge Sanchez, who joined from Club America for €5m last summer, has failed to live up to expectations at the Johan Cruyff Arena. It’s looking very likely that he may leave this summer.

Ajax have already added Branco van den Boomen to the squad, but several signings are needed in order to challenge for the title next season. Last season Ajax finished third in the Eredivisie behind Feyenoord and PSV. This means they’ve missed out on a Champions League qualification place for the first time since 2009.
