Ajax are on the verge of signing Brian Brobbey from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal until 2027, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg and Philipp Hinze. The Eredivisie side improved their offer to around €20m in the last hours and are expected to reach a total agreement in the coming week.

The Dutch champions are now in pole position to sign Brobbey after it was reported last week that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United were set to hijack the deal. Former Ajax head coach Ten Hag even had a phone call with his former striker, who re-joined Ajax on loan in January – scoring seven goals in 11 league games.

It’s also know that Brobbey doesn’t have a future at RB Leipzig, despite only joining the Bundesliga club from Ajax on a free transfer last summer. The 20-year-old has a desire to return to Ajax, where he scored 13 and created three in 32 games across all competitions.

Since his move to RB Leipzig, Brobbey played just 163 minutes of football under Jesse Marsch, and just 13 minutes across three games under Domenico Tedesco before joining Ajax on loan.
