Ajax suffered a 3-1 humiliation in their latest pre-season friendly against Augsburg.

Maurice Steijn’s side fell behind shortly before half-time when Gerónimo Rulli fumbled a Ruben Vargas cross into his own net.

The Eredivisie giants levelled shortly after the interval through a Brian Brobbey penalty after he was tripped in the area.

But Augsburg restored their one-goal lead just 13 minutes later as Sven Michel turned the ball home from Arne Maier’s delivery.

Matters worsened for Ajax later in the second half as Michel doubled his tally from the penalty spot to round off a difficult afternoon.

Next up for the Amsterdam club is their final summer friendly against Borussia Dortmund on 6 August.
