Ajax travelled to SC Heerenveen on Sunday and recorded their 12th consecutive unbeaten game in the Eredivisie after a 4-2 win.
Scorers: Van Amersfoort 42′, Van Hooijdonk 79′; Kudus 10′, Álvarez 16′, Bergwijn 19, Taylor 52′
Ajax kept the pressure on Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord with a routine win over SC Heerenveen.
An in-form Mohammed Kudus managed to get the visitors up and running with a low drive beyond Xavier Mous after minutes before assisting Edson Álvarez’s volley for 2-0.
An impressive Steven Bergwijn then danced the ball through the box and into the net for third before the 20-minute mark, and Ajax were in cruise control.
However, with their only shot on target in the first half, Heerenveen managed to erase any clean-sheet hopes when Pelle van Amersfoort headed home a ball over the top.
Coming out into the second half, the visitors added a fourth almost immediately when Kenneth Taylor’s shot from the top of the box beat Mous at the near post.
But some shaking defending almost allowed the hosts to pull themselves back into the game. Heerenveen were awarded a penalty, but VAR saved Ajax.
Towards the end of the match, more penalty claims went dismissed and Sydney van Hooijdonk finished off another ball off the top for 4-2.
Therefore it could’ve been a very different story for the Eredivisie giants if it were not for their first-half dominance in front of goal.
Looking at the table, Ajax now have seven wins in a row and are tied at the top on 55 points ahead of Feyenoord’s match Sunday evening.
