Ajax have confirmed John Heitinga will be in charge of the squad for the upcoming match against Excelsior on Sunday.
The 39-year-old was previously in charge of Jong Ajax, and steps into the first team role after the departure of manager Alfred Schreuder on Thursday.

Heitinga will have a lofty challenge ahead of him after Ajax registered six consecutive draws in the Eredivisie.
They subsequently sit 5th in the table, seven points off leaders Feyenoord.
