Fabrizio Romano provides the latest on Atalanta’s wantaway star Ademola Lookman whose future could have some repercussions on Manchester United’s transfer plans.
The 27-year-old established himself as one of the biggest stars in Serie A in his three years in Bergamo. The striker’s popularity in the Lombardian city reached its pinnacle at the end of the 2023/24 campaign when he delivered the Europa League trophy by scoring an unbelievable hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
However, Lookman encountered some negative episodes in the 2024/25 campaign, particularly a public spat with Gian Piero Gasperini in the aftermath of Atalanta’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Club Brugge, when the manager highlighted the attacker’s shortcomings from the spot.
Despite Gasperini’s departure, the Nigerian star still feels it is the right time for him to leave La Dea as well, and embark on a new career chapter. In recent weeks, Inter Milan emerged as the favourites to land the former RB Leipzig man, although Napoli are also in the fray.
In his latest video update on his Italian YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that the player has indeed agreed personal terms with Inter.
Based on recent transfer reports from Italy, particularly Gianluca Di Marzio’s updates, this could be a blow for Man United, as the Champions League finalists had identified Jadon Sancho as a potential alternative to Lookman.
The Red Devils are keen to offload the England international, alongside several other outcasts. But even if the Nerazzurri were to drop their interest in Sancho, many believe the winger will wind up in Serie A regardless, as Juventus have already made great progress in their attempts to sign him.
Moreover, Lookman’s move to Inter would also signal the end of the club’s pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund, which has already been put on ice in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, Romano insists that Inter are still struggling to strike an agreement with Atalanta who insist on collecting €50 million from any Serie A suitor who wishes to sign the Nigerian, but they’re willing to sell the player for €40 million to clubs outside Italy.
Hence, one would wonder if Man Utd might consider reviving their interest in the versatile forward, given how their status as a foreign club would give them an advantage over Inter, not to mention their excellent relationship with Atalanta.
