Jade Pennock has taken it upon herself in recent weeks to put Birmingham City’s unlikely promotion charge on her back with the Blues now sitting third.

Pennock has managed to score eight in her last eight Championship fixtures which have aided Birmingham’s bid to bounce back into the WSL now sitting seven points off the top spot with a game in hand.

The versatile attacker is set to become a free agent in the summer, so her end-of-season form – which saw her win the February Player of the Month award – will only boost ver value and pedigree.

The versatile attacker has already had a taste of the WSL last season with Birmingham, it seems as though Pennock has developed from a diamond in the rough to a star in the Championship.

How Jade Pennock has evolved her game

Having gone from a new bee in the WSL and part of a rotten Birmgham side last season, Pennock has taken it upon herself to become more versatile and deadly in the final third.

Pennock has now put a lot of responsibility on her shoulders stepping up for countless spot-kicks this term showing her maturity and ability to deal with pressure in crucial moments, which will certainly be important for when she does return to the WSL.

However, it’s not just the dead balls situations that show Pennock’s growth, but also her ability to now sniff out chances as all the top attackers do, which was shown by this instinctive finish against Crystal Palace.

If it wasn’t for Pennock then Birmingham could well be starring down the barrel of a very different season as she’s netted 12 times this term, with the club’s next highest scorer being Lucy and Lousie Quinn tied on five strikes.

The WSL is on the horizon

With 16 goal involvements to her name this season, it will be a tough summer for Birmingham to keep Pennock at the club if they do – as expected – fail to achieve promotion back to the championship.

While the Championship is growing and the standard is continuing to improve every season, it would be a huge waste of talent for Pennock to be plying her trade in the second tier for yet another campaign.

Averaging a goal every 166 minutes this season, Pennock is doing all she can to earn another crack at the WSL and it remains to be seen what more she can do apart from star for one of England’s most historic clubs during their darkest hours.

Penncok is destined for the WSL and would be a valued and versatile member of any side looking to consolidate their spot in the top tier.

However, if her future remains with Birmingham given the recent scintillating form she’s been on, remains to be seen.
