ATK Mohun Bagan's head coach, Juan Ferrando wants his side to focus on their play-off round match of the 2022 AFC Cup against Abahani Dhaka at the Salt Lake Stadium on April 19, rather then rest on their past laurels.
Mohun Bagan thrashed Sri Lankan side, Blue Star 5-0 in the second preliminary round of the 2022 AFC Cup on Tuesday, 12 April with braces from Joni Kauko, Manvir Singh and a goal from David Williams gave them what was an easy win on the night.
The Spaniard reiterated post the game that their clash against Abahani Dhaka is like a final and has urged his squad not to forget to focus on the clash.
"To be honest, I'm thinking about next Tuesday. It's time to enjoy for the players until tomorrow and for the fans, this will be a good moment but to be honest, this is football and the next match is the next Tuesday. It will be like a final and it's very important for us that we don't forget to focus on the next game," Ferrando said post their win over Blue Star.
If the Mariners beat Abahani Dhaka next Tuesday, then they will be drawn in Group D of the main AFC Cup tournament alongside Bashundhara Kings of Bangladesh, Maziya of Maldives and Hero I-League champions Gokulam Kerala.
