Borussia Dortmund are still unbeaten in 2024 and will be aiming to continue that run on Matchday 22. BVB are away to VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday (15:30 CET).

The Black & Yellows have played five matches this year and picked up four wins. BVB only dropped points in their draw in Heidenheim two weeks ago. "Consistency is the big goal. We don't just want to be consistent within a week, but also within a game. We succeeded with that against Freiburg," said BVB coach Edin Terzic as he recalled the 3-0 victory against the Breisgau outfit last Friday.

Mateu Morey returned to first-team action for the first time following a three-year injury layoff in that match and was then included in the starting line-up for the U23s in their home game against Münster (3-2 loss). "It's important that he's wearing the shirt again. He performed very well and came through the game without problems. It's another step. We're delighted that he's with us," said Terzic, who can call upon another returnee ahead of the match in Wolfsburg: Sebastien Haller. The striker, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, is expected back in Dortmund on Thursday. Following a medical check and a discussion, a decision shall be made about whether Haller travels to the away match. After two important goals during the tournament – including the winner in the final – Haller is now "the celebrated hero," according to Terzic. "We hope that he can take the momentum from the tournament and help us to continue playing successful football."

Karim Adeyemi, meanwhile, has not been able to train the last two days due to muscular problems. The attacking player will miss the match on Saturday ("We don't want to take any risks with him") and is set to be available again at the beginning or in the middle of next week. Ramy Bensebaini has also missed training through illness, but he will complete an individual session on Thursday and is set to return to team training on Friday, meaning that he will be able to make the journey to Wolfsburg.

Wolves still winless in 2024

BVB have won 10 of their last 11 meetings with VfL Wolfsburg – including the reverse fixture by a 1-0 scoreline thanks to a goal from Marco Reus. Only the last away game to date against the Wolves in November 2022 has ended in defeat during that run, with the Black & Yellows losing 2-0 that day. The Lower Saxony outfit have not been able to win a match yet this year (four draws and one defeat). Including last year in the equation, the Wolves are on a seven-match winless run. "Wolfsburg are not having an easy phase at the moment if you look at the results. Nonetheless, they have a good team. Their processes look really good," said Terzic in analysis of the opposition. "There have been many draws in their last nine games and all the others were decided by a one-goal margin. That indicates that it's extremely difficult to win against them. There have been tight games and they were close to coming away as winners."

The home team's goal will be to do better on Saturday. "We want to pick up the next three points in an important away game in order to further improve our situation," the BVB coach explained.Christina Reinke
