Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi, currently with Borussia Dortmund, has won the 2018 African Youth Player of the Year award.
In May, Madrid-born Moroccan won the Champions League while a member of Real Madrid.
At the World Cup in Russia, Hakimi played every minute during Morocco’s impressive World Cup campaign which saw them come within minutes of upsetting Spain.
Since joining Borussia Dortmund on loan, the 20-year-old has starred in wingback roles, scoring a goal and adding three assists in 12 Bundesliga starts for the top of the table side.
In the Champions League, Hakimi raised eyebrows all over the world with a thrilling three-assist performance in Dortmund’s massive 4-0 win over Atlético Madrid.
Hakimi beat out Wilfred Ndidi (Nigeria & Leicester City), Andre Onana (Cameroon & Ajax), Ismaila Sarr (Senegal & Rennes), Mahmoud Benhalib (Morocco & Raja Club Athletic), and Franck Kessie (Cote d’Ivoire & AC Milan) to the award.
Dortmund have already announced their intentions to purchase Hakimi at the conclusion of his loan.
