Italian news outlet Calciomercato has reported that Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker is very close to finalising his move to the Serie A club AC Milan. Milan have negotiated with City for a loan deal for the player for the rest of the season. The player has reached Milan to have his medical examination done at his new club.

Walker grew into prominence during his tenure at Tottenham, and then City signed him in the summer transfer window of 2017. He was an integral part of the plans and playing XI of Pep Guardiola all throughout these years and played an important part in the club winning multiple titles.

Although the Englishman has lost a bit of pace in the ongoing season, he was still an important part of the starting line-up. Walker, however, wants to move to a new destination and take up a new challenge. The club have accepted his decision given that he has just 18 months left on his contract.

He has appeared in 15 matches this season in the Premier League, playing a total of 965 minutes. Kyle Walker concedes an average of 1.77 goals for every 90 minutes that the player is on the pitch. Their Clean Sheets ratio is currently at 13%.

Walker has conceded 19 goals and kept two clean sheets in 15 matches in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. That means when Walker is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 51 minutes. Moreover, he’s made 1.59 tackles and 0.28 interceptions for every 90 minutes he was on the pitch. Walker is also racking up about 1.03 clearances at the same time.

Why will it be a good move for Manchester City as well?

Therefore, he will still be important for any club that signs him. Multiple clubs were interested in getting him in the ongoing January transfer window, but it is AC Milan who have the opportunity. Milan want to get more experience on the backline, and Walker’s ability to play as a full-back on both sides will greatly help them.

The club has successfully negotiated a deal with City, and they won’t have to pay anything during the loan move. However, the Serie A club need to pay €5 million surely to sign him permanently in the upcoming summer transfer window. Walker is also happy to play for AC Milan and take up the challenge in Serie A. He has agreed to a deal that will last till 2027, and the Serie A club will need to pay him €4 million net per season.

It remains to be seen when the move gets announced. It will be a good move for City because they will be able to cash in on the man who will turn 35 next season and can start scouring the market for competent right-backs.
