Leeds United have been linked with a move for Southampton's Che Adams in the summer.

The former Birmingham City striker will be available on a free transfer in the summer, when his contract with the Saints comes to an end.

Teamtalk have linked Leeds with a move for the forward, although a move for Adams will likely be dependent on the club winning promotion to the Premier League this season.

Adams has scored 13 times already this season, while also contributing three assists in the league. Considering he has only started half of his sides matches in the Championship, this shows how good he can be when given a chance in the team.

The Whites have been embroiled in a promotion battle this season, and it will go down to the wire to decide which two out of Leeds, Leicester City and Ipswich Town will be playing in the top flight next season.

Che Adams would be a no-brainer signing for Leeds

FLW's Leeds fan pundit Kris Smith believes that Adams would be a great signing for the club, although notes that the club will need to win promotion in order to secure his signature.

He claims Adams would be an improvement on Patrick Bamford, and would give the club some much needed depth up front for the first time in years.

Speaking to FLW,Smith said: "The fact that we're looking at Che Adams right now is quite encouraging to me, because it's purely a value for money situation. We've been linked with him since January 2020, when Marcelo Bielsa was pushing to get us promoted, but along the way, every time we've been linked with him, the issue that I've seen is the value of the deal struck as odd."

"Southampton have wanted a lot more money for him - rightly so - than we've been really willing to pay, or that made sense for us to pay. He's not really been worth it at those times."

"But with his contract up in the summer, he's going for free. Leeds would be getting a number nine in the same sort of mould as Patrick Bamford, in that he's a target man, he can link play really well, he's a good presser. He is younger, and he has a better injury record as well. He's just an all-round improvement on Bamford. He's a better goalscorer, he's better at providing."

"I think the only way we stand a chance of getting him is if we're in the Premier League, because there's other teams linked with him as well, like Wolves. But for free, I think it's an absolute no-brainer, because he adds so much depth to our side, which has been a massive issue for so long, not having cover up front."

Leeds face competition from the Premier League to sign Adams

Given the clubs who are also linked with a move for Adams, it does seem like promotion is required to sign the striker.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing him in the summer, according to TeamTalk.

With Wolves fighting for a top-half finish this season, they will no doubt be a more attractive option for Adams at this stage in his career, regardless of whether Leeds win promotion or not.

, although how realistic that is as a move remains to be seen.
