The five oldest Champions League players are all goalkeepers, with former Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta as the oldest outfielder (40 years, 211 days).

A staggering 17 years later, Pepe is now the oldest-ever outfield player in the competition at 40 years and 241 days.

If he continues his career for another three years, he could pass former Lazio player Marco Ballotta’s all-time record (43 years, 252 days).
