Matchday 7 of the Championship saw Reading continue their dominance at the top of the standings with a 3-0 triumph over Rotherham United at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals have failed to finish in the top half of the table in each of the previous three seasons where they have mostly spent their campaigns fighting against relegation.

This time around, there has been a change of fortunes under new manager Veljko Paunovic and they are just one of two teams in the second tier, who are unbeaten.

The Royals’ tally of six wins from seven matches sees them comfortably at the top of the table. They are already five points ahead of second-placed Bristol City with a superior goal difference to boost.

Elsewhere, Norwich City returned to the top-six after four matchdays. The Canaries suffered back-to-back defeats before the international break, but they have since been in fine form.

Daniel Farke’s side made three wins in a row on Saturday, but they were made to work hard for the victory as they scored a late winner for the third game running.

Wycombe Wanderers showed impressive defensive resolve to keep the scores at 1-1 for 78 minutes, but Mario Vrancic eventually breached through their backline in the first minute of stoppage time.

Gareth Ainsworth’s side have struggled in their first-ever season in the Championship and they are currently the only team in the Football League yet to pick up a point this term.

Meanwhile, Stoke continued their recent dominance over Brentford with a 3-2 victory. The Potters picked up four points against the Bees last term and were responsible for ending their eight-match winning streak in the penultimate game.

Thomas Frank’s side had recently registered back-to-back wins and much of the focus was on summer signing Ivan Toney, who had netted braces in each of his previous three matches.

The Potters, however, managed to keep the 24-year-old quiet for most of the encounter. The former Newcastle United man still managed to grab an assist for Marcus Forss, who netted two goals coming off the bench.

Looking at the tailend of the table, Derby County continue to remain in the drop zone. The Rams picked up a point at Nottingham Forest to end their two-match losing streak, but the pressure is definitely mounting on manager Phillip Cocu.

Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, were unable to reduce their negative deficit for the second game running after a slender 1-0 defeat to Nathan Jones’ Luton Town at home.

Wednesday continue to remain at the bottom of the standings with -4 points. Garry Monk’s side were deducted 12 points for the current season after breaching profit and sustainability rules for the 2017/18 campaign.
