One player who didn’t travel to the United States with Manchester City for the FIFA Club World Cup was James McAtee. Instead, McAtee captained England at the European Under-21 Championships. McAtee helped England win the tournament with Lee Carsley’s side beating Germany 3-2 in the final. McAtee put in a man-of-the-match performance as he picked up two assists in the final.

Now with the tournament complete, James McAtee’s future should be resolved in the coming weeks. It would appear that he will leave Manchester City this summer. But his strong performances for England should see him have a plethora of options to explore as he bids to play regular first-team football next season.

Perhaps a move to Newcastle United could be on the cards for McAtee. Ahad Shaukat has previously reported for CaughtOffside that Newcastle United have an interest in signing him. That could be one possible destination for McAtee. There are other suitors registered with an interest in McAtee. Esteemed Kompany sources have previously revealed that Tottenham, West Ham, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Nottingham Forest are keeping an eye on McAtee. As are Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund. McAtee seemingly has no shortage of options to pursue. Which one he chooses is now a story to monitor. But what seems clear is that McAtee will leave Manchester City. It’s just a matter of where he ends up.
