Following Watford’s relegation to the Championship last season, there has been plenty of discussion surrounding the future of certain players at the club with the possibility that they would want to return to the top flight.

One man who has been subject to interest during the transfer window is Ismaila Sarr.

The 24-year-old has been linked with plenty of top flight sides including Manchester United, Leeds United and most recently Crystal Palace.

However, with him still a Hornet he has played in Watford’s opening games this season and already has a goal to his name.

Football League World exclusively revealed that Watford have placed a £25million price tag on their player this summer meaning if he was to go, they would cash in quite nicely.

Therefore, we asked one of FLW’s Watford fan pundits Justin Beattie whether he would like his club to hold on to the player or sell on: “Ismaila Sarr yeah, at the end of last season I think I’d have snapped off the arm of any club that was coming in for him because he had a fairly poor season last time out.

“He was injured for a lot of it, when he did play he was fairly ineffective.

“However, since dropping down a division in the few games that he’s played already he’s looked dangerous and I think if we did keep him he’d be a major asset to us this season.

“However, I can understand why he wants to move on.

“In the past he’s been linked with some quote, unquote top six clubs so I think Crystal Palace is a curious move.

“However, if he wants to play Premier League football and if we get the right fee for him then yeah obviously it would be sad but understandable if he leaves us.”

In what year was the club founded?

The Verdict:

This is a bit of a tough one to call. As Justin points out, he didn’t have the most effective season last year and although he is wanted by top flight clubs, you have to question how much game time he is guaranteed from these moves, especially if he falls out of form.

However, you can understand why Sarr himself would be keen to make a move back to the top flight and he would no doubt be willing to show his worth in the Premier League which could be especially easier in a side that isn’t suffering relegation.

That being said, he has started the season well for Watford and if he stays put you find it hard not to see him as a star player in that side. Therefore, if they are aiming for promotion, would it be worth sticking about a year to boost his confidence and then hoping to play in the Premier League next season?

As it stands, Sarr is out of contract with Watford in 2024 which puts them in a powerful position to ensure that if they do lose the player this month, they will have a suitable amount of money to try and source a replacement.
