Alan Hutton admits Albian Ajeti could cost Celtic “a lot of money” if they are to buy him from West Ham.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the Switzerland international could be a good addition to the squad if he can hit the ground running.

Ajeti joined the Irons for £8.5million last summer but has struggled to make any sort of an impact in east London.

Hutton admits that the seven-figure fee is a hefty price but that Ajeti would help bolster an already impressive front line.

Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s a lot of money, it is a lot of money – £8million the previous year and then £5.5million possibly next year.

“It’s a lot of money to be spent but he’s an international player, he’s been there and done it at a high level so it’s competition, it’s bringing in another experienced player.

“I’m also a massive fan of Leigh Griffiths, if you can get him firing, he’s a proven goalscorer and I’m not sure there are many better in Scotland. He’ll (Lennon) be very happy to get it done.”

Ajeti played just 12 times for West Ham last season with not a single Premier League start to his name.

He joined the Hammers after he scored 43 goals in 96 appearances for FC Basel.
