For teh first match of preseason, our Rouge et Blanc lost by the smallest of margins (0-1) against Servette Geneva. It was a match which allowed coach Adi Hütter to carry out a large review of his squad, under the eyes of President Dmitry Rybolovlev, present at the Performance Center. Recap.

It's always the same at the start of preseason -- there is fatigue, it's normal. I am obviously a little disappointed with the result but we are not stopping here and we want to continue to progress in our style of play.

A balanced first half

For this first preseason match, the Austrian manager lined up his team in 4-2-3-1 with a central defence composed of Thilo Kehrer and Wilfried Singo. Aleksandr Golovin started with Mohamed Camara in midfield, just behind Félix Lemarechal, playing as a 10. Our Rouge et Blanc started the game well and were keeping the ball.

It is thus they who obtained the first chance for Kassoum Ouattara, whose cross in front of the goal was pushed back by Mall (8′). The Swiss response took place immediately with long-range strikes by Kutesa (17′) and then Cognat (20′), before the Monegasque left-back stood out again. After a bit of skill in the area, he saw his attempt stopped by the Swiss goalkeeper (33′).

A (nearly) #MadeInLaDiagonale 11 in the second half

The end of the first half came alive and Ismail Jakobs had a shot that was overhit (42′) before Radoslaw Majecki was decisive in keeping out Von Moos (43′). Half-time was therefore signaled with a score of 0-0. It was time for Adi Hütter to carry out a large rotation of the squad with the presence of numerous players who played with the Elite Group last season (Béry, Nibombe, Platret Valme, Bamba, Etonde and Bertolucci).

Experience makes the difference

The latter quickly stood out by attempting a powerful strike at the near post. It is well read by Mall who diverted it (50′). The more experienced Swiss accelerated and saw Gaël Oudoua’s goal refused for an offside position (61′). There was no debate, however, four minutes later on Jérémy Guillemenot’s well-placed shot which found the corner of Philipp Köhn’s net, having also come on at the break (65′).

Next match against Cercle

The intensive peseason was then felt by the young Monegasques who were having difficulty finding opportunities. This is how this match ended, won by the smallest of margins by Servette Geneva (0-1) but one which allowed Adi Hütter to carry out a large squad review and give playing time to the players from the Academy.

The Rouge et Blanc will now turn their attention to a new week of training which will lead them to play a new friendly match, this time against Cercle Bruges on Saturday (10:30).
