Barcelona star Gavi has on Friday added his name to the growing list of defenders of teammate Marc-André ter Stegen.
This comes amid mounting speculation that the German will soon be stripped of his captain’s armband in Catalunya’s capital.
After dropping to third-choice in the pecking order between the posts in Hansi Flick’s squad, Ter Stegen is no longer considered essential in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Rumours linking the 33-year-old with a summer exit, in turn, have long been rampant in the media.
Drawn on the situation of their teammate whilst speaking to the media on Thursday, both Frenkie de Jong and Ferran Torres made use of the opportunity to throw their backing behind Ter Stegen.
And as alluded to above, 24 hours on, Gavi has done likewise.
Speaking during an interview with RAC1, the 20-year-old midfielder revealed his take that:
“I think we, the players, are the ones who will vote, definitely, but in any case, Marc is the first captain in the team, and in the end, the team decides what will happen. Marc is a legend at the club and must be respected, that’s the reality, when he returns from injury, we’ll see, and the coach will decide.”
