Norwich City striker Jordan Hugill seems to be a man in demand this month, with a number of clubs from the Championship and League One interested in securing his services.

Hugill has found his game time increasingly limited at Carrow Road this season, making just 10 appearances, with only two of those coming as starts.

Both of those starts came in the Carabao Cup, with all of his league minutes coming from the bench, while he has also been left out of the squad altogether on a number of occasions.

Canaries head coach David Wagner confirmed Hugill is not part of his plans and will be allowed to leave this month.

“I had a chat with Jordan (on Friday) and I really like what I’ve seen,” Wagner told the Pink Un. “He is exactly the type of striker I love, who shows so much passion on the grass. But in our idea, and in our formation, you normally only play with two strikers. We can do that and I will normally only name three for the squad.

“The three we had in this squad are the three. They are top players. And, unfortunately, there is no space for a fourth one. And I don’t know what this means for the future. But I think it’s important that everybody is on the same page. And this is why I had this conversation with Jordan.”

Hugill is out of contract at the end of the season and has no shortage of suitors. Football Insider report that Derby County, Birmingham City and Rotherham United have all joined the race to sign the 30-year-old, while Reading have already submitted an offer.

With such restricted game time this season, it is difficult to judge Hugill based on his brief cameos in the league. But he registered one goal and one assist in his two starts in the Carabao Cup, which shows the potential impact he can make when given an opportunity.

Hugill does have a decent track record in the second tier, scoring 12 goals for Preston North End in 2016-17, six for Middlesbrough in 2018-19 and 13 for Queens Park Rangers in 2019-20, while he found the back of the net four times during a temporary spell with Cardiff City last campaign.

According to Sofascore, in Hugill’s league appearances this season he had a 68% pass accuracy, made 0.3 tackles, won 50% of his aerial duels and had 0.3 shots per game, but with a small sample size, Hugill’s goal scoring history perhaps provides a better assessment of his capabilities.

One area for improvement for Hugill would perhaps be discipline as he has received three yellow cards even in his limited minutes, which could be a sign of his frustration or his desperation to impress.

There is no doubt that whoever lands Hugill’s signature this month is getting a player who can be a threat, but needs the platform to showcase his talent.
