Despite a brilliant mid-season spell, Coventry City's start and conclusion to their campaign cost them a spot in the Championship play-offs.

As the summer transfer window is now on the horizon, the Sky Blues can turn their focus to signing new additions across the side. A number of potential outings seem a real possibility, with Callum O'Hare and Fabio Tavares two that may leave the Midlands side.

Due to these potential outgoings and current positions under scrutiny, here are five players that Coventry City should aim to sign this summer:

1 Chris Willock

QPR's Chris Willock is out of contract this summer at Loftus Road and would be a great addition to play anywhere behind Ellis Simms up front.

Able to play both off the right and left wing, the tricky forward could provide great competition for players like Haji Wright and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto. A more creative player than Wright and, on average, taking on players far more frequently than Sakamoto (according to FBRef), Willock could complement Robins' current wingers superbly.

A Championship stalwart, he has been touted for a move to a promotion-chasing side for a number of years now and this year could finally provide that. Competition will undoubtedly come from other clubs, with Sunderland another reported interested party.

A free agent and a current contract of £9,400 a week shouldn't be any trouble for the finances of the Sky Blues, and it would be no surprise to see Willock line up in their starting 11 next season.

2 Lukas Jensen

Danish keeper Lukas Jensen would be a great addition to Coventry this summer. With Ben Wilson and Brad Collins sharing the keeper duties this year, they have both been subject to a few errors, evidenced no more than Collins' recent mistake against Hull City.

Current Lincoln keeper Jensen would be the ideal option to step up and take the number one jersey at Coventry. Having accrued over 4000 minutes for the Imps this season, his goals prevented, high claims, clean sheets and save percentage are all among the top 10% in League One, as per FotMob.

This is far superior to that of Collins or Wilson, while it might not be too expensive to prise him away from the Imps.

3 Harrison Burrows

EFL Trophy star Harrison Burrows would be an unbelievable signing for Coventry next season. With Jake Bidwell aging and Jay Dasilva not setting the world alight, Posh's number three would be a stellar addition and could propel the Midlands side towards the upper echelons of the Championship.

Having progressed through Peterborough's ranks, at just 22-years-old, Burrows has played a large part in the past four seasons for the Cambridgeshire side. This season it really took off though, and with 28 goal contributions in 56 games across all competitions, you will struggle to find a more technically gifted full-back.

Averaging in advance of both current Coventry left-backs for the majority of defensive and attacking stats, he would be a top signing. Slotting perfectly between Dasilva's attacking outlet and Bidwell's defensive resolution, there is no better option.

Posh previously rejected a January offer from an unknown bidder for Burrows but assuming they miss out on promotion, it would be no surprise to see him leave this summer. Interest could come from a higher level, but a significant offer in advance of his valuation may be enough to entice Burrows.

4 Macauley Langstaff

A player that will be linked to moves to many teams this summer will be Notts County's, Macauley Langstaff. Since his release from York City in 2020, the 27-year-old has scored 103 goals in 157 games for the Magpies and Gateshead, netting 42 in 48 games for County in their 2022/23 promotion campaign.

A natural goalscorer, he thrives on good service and could provide a completely different option to Simms. This would also give the opportunity for Robins to change tactics, and play Langstaff alongside either Wright or Simms in a front two when chasing goals.

A valuation of £1.5 million makes him easily affordable for most Championship clubs and should the Sky Blues renew their interest, we could see Langstaff make the short move to Coventry soon enough.

With a Ben Sheaf departure seemingly on the horizon, the need for a new central defensive midfielder could be important for Coventry this summer. The perfect answer would be the loan signing of Bosun Lawal from Celtic.

Having performed remarkably well in a relegated Fleetwood side, the 20-year-old is in line for another move away from the Hoops with many Championship sides interested.

Coventry should certainly join the race as the midfielder excels in a number of assets, specifically, duels won and long balls per 90. They will have to do something special to entice Lawal away from their rivals, but should Sheaf leave, they have the perfect replacement in the Celtic man.
