On 5 July 1975, Real Madrid secured their thirteenth Copa de España. Their opponents in the final were Atlético Madrid, in a match played at the Vicente Calderón stadium. The match ended goalless and the Whites prevailed over their opponents in a penalty shoot-out (4-3). Amancio, Pirri, Rubiñán and Aguilar converted Madrid's spot-kicks.
On their way to the Vicente Calderón, the madridistas defeated Orense in the last 16, Las Palmas in the quarter-finals after coming back from 4-0 down in the first leg at home, and Zaragoza in the semi-finals. The team was managed by Miljan Miljanic, who secured a league and cup double that season.
