Over the past few weeks, Flamengo have become irritated with several absences on account of the Brazilian teams.
Whether in the main squad or Olympic qualifying, several Rubro-Negro athletes have been called up and became unavailable for the club.
Now, the problems could become even greater. According to ESPN, four Flamengo stars have now appeared in André Jardine’s preliminary squad for the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo.
Of course, being two of the top clubs in Brazil, Flamengo and Palmeiras are the two clubs most affected by Jardine’s pre-list with four and three players, respectively.
Gabigol, Pedro, Gerson, and Rodrigo Caio are candidates to feature for the U-23s, while Gabriel Menino, Weverton, and Patrick could miss significant time for the Verdão.
However, it’s expected that only Pedro and Gerson will be included in the final list as the CBF made an agreement so that Copa América players would not be called up, so the chances Gabigol is called up are very low.
