Liverpool are about to embark upon their Premier League title defence with a home game against Leeds United at Anfield later this month. Before the new season gets underway, the Reds supporters will be anxious to see whether their beloved club can manage to bring Thiago in from Bayern Munich. The Spaniard has got less than a year left to run in his contract at the Allianz Arena and has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer.

Defence

Alisson Becker will be Jurgen Klopp’s undisputed number one keeper for the new campaign with Adrain expected to play as his back-up on the bench. Joe Gomez has formed a dominant defensive partnership with Virgil Van Dijk over the past 18 months, so they should be guaranteed starters at the centre of the Liverpool backline when fit and available for selection.

Despite the arrival of Konstantinos Tsimikas from Olympiacos, Andrew Robertson should still keep his place at left-back, while Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to have another impressive season as the right-back. Both full-backs will fancy their chances of outdoing each other in the offensive end of the field as they are currently playing at the prime and have got the trophies to back up their first-team status.

Midfield

If Thiago joins the Reds, then he might slot in on the left side of Klopp’s midfield three alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. There will be a perfect blend of creativity, defensive stability and work-ethic in Liverpool’s midfield if they can land the Bayern Munich playmaker this summer.

Georginio Wijnaldum’s future at Merseyside is uncertain as Barcelona are confident about their chances of landing him in this off-season. However, the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and James Milner can all expect to be a regular feature in Klopp’s match-day squads in the upcoming campaign.

Attack

The Reds frontline will be comprised of the usual suspects with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah offering some natural width out on the flanks, while Roberto Firmino leads the charge for the reigning Premier League champions down the middle.

The incredible trio scored 46 goals amongst each other in the English top-flight last season. Hence, we can expect them to be Klopp’s primary attackers once again as they try to carry most of the goal-scoring burden up top.
