Reiss Nelson has been out of action since December through injury, and Fulham manager Marco Silva recently confirmed the bad news that the winger had suffered another setback.
“We had really bad news two days ago about Reiss Nelson,” Silva said. “Unfortunately for us, everything was going in the right direction, and he felt the same type of injury but in the other leg. It’s going to take a long time again to get him ready.”
Nelson has since confirmed he’s had to undergo surgery, sharing a picture from his hospital bed on Instagram.
“Life and football are all about setbacks and comebacks,” Nelson wrote. “This one hurts, but it’s just part of the journey. Surgery went well, I’m focused and determined to return stronger than ever.”

Nelson’s initial injury was a hamstring problem, so Silva’s comment that the new injury was “the same type of injury but in the other leg” suggests the winger was undergoing hamstring surgery.
Given Bukayo Saka had surgery in late December and is expected to be out until mid-March, a similar timeframe would put Nelson out until at least early May.
Fulham’s final league fixture is on May 25th, so it’s a race against time for Nelson to return soon enough to have a significant impact on the remainder of the season.

Nelson had made 12 appearances for Fulham before his first injury, scoring two goals and assisting one more. He’d just been handed a run in the team when he got injured, starting five Premier League games in a row.
