There is an impressive blend of aspiring youngsters and proven veterans at FC Barcelona right now. Unlike the years where there was an abundance of one or the other, the team finally seems to have found the right balance. However, that also means Barcelona must make some major decisions.

After all, no youngster is content with a supporting role forever and no veteran can provide the same quality of football every single year. At some point, it is up to Barcelona to decide which players to retain and which players to part ways with.

So far this summer, the club has already decided to part ways with young pearls such as Pablo Torre, with La Blaugrana understanding that the young player needs more minutes. At the same time, they have just renewed the contract of a veteran like Wojciech Szczesny.

Another Barcelona veteran who could soon be making a big decision for his career seems to be Robert Lewandowski. Despite still being in top physical condition, the 36-year-old Polish international may soon decide to hang up his boots when it comes to his country.

Lewandowski could retire from international football

As per the latest information provided on the matter by SPORT, the Polish international may decide to retire from the National team if Poland fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite currently being involved in the qualifiers for the tournament, it seems unlikely for them to achieve their objective.

Over the last few months, there have been some differences in the Polish camp between Robert Lewandowski and his coach at the time, Michal Probierz. Ultimately, their differences led to the coach even stripping him of his captaincy and with Lewandowski publicly stating that he would not return to the international camp with him as coach.

However, it was ultimately the Barcelona ace that came out on top with Probierz stepping down. Instead, the team will now be managed by another coach, but their hopes of qualifying for the upcoming World Cup remain diminished and it seems unlikely that they will make it to the tournament.

For that reason, reports from Poland suggest that the upcoming games may very well be Lewandowski’s last for the National team. After that, with one year left on his Barcelona contract as well, the Polish veteran can commit himself completely to the Catalan club or whatever the future holds in store for him.

After all, his own extension or continuity will likely depend on what kind of season he can have with La Blaugrana in the upcoming campaign. He has been a great servant for the club so far, but Barcelona will need all the quality and energy they can manage for the project that they are building for the long-run.
