With Plymouth Argyle playing out a draw with Fleetwood Town, Sheffield Wednesday managed to secure top spot once more after yesterday’s win.

Here, we take a look at three things that we learnt about the Owls yesterday afternoon…

Owls pass a different kind of test

You would have to go all the way back to Boxing Day to find when Sheffield Wednesday last conceded first in a match, with the Owls trailing twice against the Dons.

Showing a different side to their game to hustle their way out of what could have been a real banana skin, Darren Moore’s side showed that they could find a way.

Winning matches in different ways is a sign of a very good team and Sheffield Wednesday are now positioning themselves very well for the run-in.

Darren Moore is the current manager?

True False

Forward line display shows excellent levels of competition

Michael Smith and Josh Windass put in a fine display in the attacking third, although it was a difficult start for the former.

Smith netted twice to ensure that the points would remain in Yorkshire, whilst Windass converted in the ninth minute to draw level.

Smith’s physicality and ability to link the play caused all sorts of havoc for the MK Dons defence, with Windass’ intelligence and pace making the pair unstoppable at times.

Then, Lee Gregory came on in the second half and added even more fight and attacking prowess and found the back of the net just a few minutes after coming on.

George Byers continues to shine

George Byers completed the scoring for the Owls, netting what was his sixth of the season.

The combative and technically-gifted midfielder has chipped in with three goal contributions in his last three games and his fifth goal contribution in his last seven.

A player who can evidently influence in the final third, his ability to read the game and get stuck makes him a vitally important figure under Moore’s stewardship.

Competition levels are high in the middle of the park but it would be difficult to drop any of the current three.
