Ipswich had their second midway through the first half as Marcus Harness reacted quickly to force the ball home after Burns was denied a brace.

Finally, Conor Chaplin made it three as he latched on to Janoi Donacien’s pass to slot home following rare tricky footwork from the Saint Lucian.

It was the perfect day for McKenna’s side as they look to navigate their way out of the League One, with this emphatic win doing plenty to convincing everyone.

With that in mind, here are three things we learnt about Ipswich after their 3-0 win.

One thing that is certain is that their squad is much stronger than last season. The recruitment was needed under Paul Cook and the new ownership, but it almost seemed like too much.

So, this season, with thought, players have been added in areas that has suited a system and gives them the right balance for McKenna.

It’s a flexible side, with versatile players and when they put this sort of performance on, it makes the rest of the division take note.

Ipswich deployed 3-4-3 in this game which game them so much more balance. The wing-backs created width, with Harness and Chaplin providing support in wide areas giving MK Dons an incredibly hard time.

With both of those on the scoresheet, Freddie Ladapo proved to be the perfect foil as MK Dons struggle to get to grip with the system deployed by McKenna.

With Donacien providing two assists as well, it’s a frightening thought to think just how good this side could evolve to be as the season progresses.

This lends into the 3-4-3 but with Lee Evans and Sam Morsy as a double pivot in front of a solid back three, teams will not enjoy trying to break them down if they decide to sit in.

There will be games like that, and with Wes Burns and Leif Davis, there are two very capable wing-backs who will have the energy to sit deep and break forward when needed.

MK Dons had just two shots on target in this game, and three corners highlighting that they struggled to make in-roads against this system.
