These sides are both having impressive seasons, albeit are each caught in the no man’s land of being too good for a relegation battle but likely not going to mount a fight for the European places.

Nonetheless, a win is crucial as neither club has returned from the winter break in particularly good form.

Fiorentina did beat Sassuolo courtesy of a last minute penalty but disappointingly drew at home to Monza and lost to Roma.

For the Granata, they have drawn twice and lost to Spezia, although did impressively knock Milan out of the Coppa Italia at San Siro despite playing with 10 men.

Their reward for that was an away trip to tonight’s opponents in the quarter-final and this clash will also prove a fitting dress rehearsal for that.

Torino aim to end a long wait

It has been a very long time since Torino fans made the trip to Tuscany in Serie A and returned celebrating a victory.

So long in fact that when they last won in Florence, VHS was making a triumphant arrival onto the entertainment scene so quite a lot has changed.

Their last top flight win at Fiorentina came courtesy of a lone Ciccio Graziani strike in October 1976 for a Granata side who were defending league champions at that point.

Since then, they have lost 18 times and drawn on 14 occasions (none more famously than the Alessio Cerci missed penalty game) on their 32 trips.

They are also chasing a first away league win this season since October. Is this finally the game they do it?

Torino’s two exciting new talents

In Torino’s aforementioned Coppa Italia win at San Siro, two of their less heralded squad members combined for the winner.

The duo in question are 22-year-old midfielder Michel Adopo and 21-year-old forward Demba Seck, who are both set to start at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

For Seck, it would be his fourth Serie A start and he is still chasing his first goal but he has shown enough glimpses in those games and in other appearances off the bench to suggest that isn’t far away.

Adopo has a much tougher task to break into the side’s midfield given the names ahead of him but all indications are that Ivan Jurić will put him in from the off for just the second time in the league in his career.

Keep a close eye on them because the buzz around both could increase with a big performance in this one.
