As the Women’s World Cup draws closer, we look at three Manchester City players who you should watch out for in action.
City have six players in Sarina Wiegman’s squad but perhaps the most important to their chances of success is Hemp.
The winger may still be just 22 but has already won six honours across club and country in her young career, with the best yet to come.
On the individual side, she won a staggering four PFA Young Player of the Year awards in five seasons, utilising her blistering pace and electric dribbling to cause nightmares for so many defences.
She arrives in Australia on the back of another exceptional campaign, registering double fixtures for both goals and assists for City.
A key figure in England’s Euros win on home soil last summer, many eyes will be on her to deliver another star showing again.
Jamaica’s all-time top scorer couldn’t be in a better place ahead of this competition.
Her exploits in 2022/23 were incredible as she followed up a promising and impressive debut campaign with a sensational 31 goals in 30 games.
That saw her break City’s single-season goals record and also saw Shaw, better known by the nickname Bunny which her brother bestowed upon her due to her love of carrots, rewarded with a new two-year deal.
Even with a world class scoring talent like Shaw leading the line, the Reggae Girlz face a tough task having been allocated a difficult group that includes France and Brazil.
But with 42 goals in just 32 caps, the 26-year-old is more than capable of adding to that tally this summer.
Admittedly, Roord is as fresh a City player as you can get.
After all, her blockbuster move was only announced earlier this month and she is yet to pull on the sky blue for her new employers.
But for an indication of just how an important player she can and will be for the Cityzens, the World Cup offers the perfect opportunity to catch her in action.
An all-action midfielder who also possesses a exceptional late movement into the box and an eye for goal, Roord is back in the WSL after a successful spell at Wolfsburg, having starred in English football previously at Arsenal.
She has tasted success at international level in the past too and was part of the Euro 2017 winners as well as the side which reached the last World Cup final – is similar success in store this summer?
