With just days to go before the 7th and 8th round matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Ronwen Williams is making his ambitions with South Africa crystal clear.
In an interview with FIFA's website, South Africa's captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams shared his dream of leading the team to the World Cup finals. "We could have one foot in the World Cup. Both games are at home, in Bloemfontein. We've got a rivalry with Nigeria, so that match is going to be massive. If we beat them, I think their chances of qualifying will be very, very slim. But for them, they'll see it as their chance to close the gap on us, so it's going to be tough." he revealed.
South Africa hasn't reached a World Cup final stage since 2010, when the country hosted the tournament. For Ronwen, qualifying would mean more than just sporting glory: "I know it would unite the country. South Africans could forget about some of the problems they face, at least for a while, and just be happy supporting the Boyz at the World Cup. I get goosebumps just thinking about it!"
