Summer in Europe is arguably the most thrilling period of any year, not just for the warmer weather that makes outdoor activities possible, but also for the season-defining transfers that unfold in the world of football.
At the end of each season and right before the start of another, clubs are allowed to regroup and reinforce their ranks through the instrumentality of the transfer window. Interestingly, each year without fail, the English Premier League seems to top the charts for the sheer size and quality of deals that take place within its clubs.
The 2025 summer transfer window is no different and as of mid-July, the EPL has seen spending worth over €1.5 billion in spending and another €700 million in income from outgoing players.
Some stars such as Trent Alexander Arnold and Kevin de Bruyne have exited the league while other youngsters like Estevao, Ryan Cherki and Heremie Frimpong will make English top-flight debuts very soon.
In all of these, it’s pretty difficult not to wonder which player transfers are making rounds and which blockbuster deals are worth keeping an eye on. Thankfully, football expert Kate Richardson peels behind the curtain to unveil all the top transfer stories you should know about this summer.
The 2025 summer window fully opened on the 16th of June and will run till the 1st of September. Here are some of the inward and outward transfers that have been confirmed in the league.
The English Champions have shown that they are not planning to rest on their oars even after Arne Slot’s very successful first season. Added to their ranks is Florian Wirtz who has joined on a £100m fee. However, with add-ons reaching up to £116m, the total package could break the record as the most expensive transfer in British football history.
Two players have joined a long list of footballing stars that have switched allegiance between the red and blue sides of London. Arsenal triggered the £5m release clause in Kepa’s contract to seal a move to the Emirates.
“We are really happy to have Kepa joining us. He is a player we know, having come up against him many times in recent seasons. He brings a wealth of experience, which his teammates will benefit from, and he has a real hunger to win,” Mikel Arteta, Arsenal Manager said.
Noni Madueke, on the other hand, missed Chelsea’s Club World Cup triumph over PSG after he completed medicals for a £52m move to north London.
With the departure of Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City have been on a rampage this summer. Before the Club World Cup even kicked off, the club announced that Rayan Ait-Nouri had joined from Wolves while Rayan Cherki signed a five year deal from Lyon. City also completed the transfer of A.C. Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, paying £46.3m for the Dutch midfielder.
Chelsea have not been silent this summer transfer window either, being the big money spenders that they are. Having signed Estevao Willian from Brazilian club Palmeiras, the teenager is poised to join his dream club this summer.
“I decided on Chelsea because of their planning, I was very pleased with that,” Estevao told The Guardian. “Not just for me, but also for my family. It was the club that believed in me and trusted in my work. I hope I can pay that back.”
Brighton sent another of their finest to Chelsea in Joao Pedro, and he had already earned his place, featuring in two games at the Club World Cup and scoring thrice. Also joining the Blues is Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Jamie Gittens from Dortmund.
In some surprise transfers among rivals, Anthony Elanga made a shock move from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle. Tottenham Hotspur also announced the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham after triggering the buy clause of Mathys Tel in the same window.
Bournemouth and Brentford have also seen notable moves to rivals, with Milos Kerkez joining Liverpool while Christian Norgaard signed for Arsenal and Mbuemo secured a deal with Manchester United.
While some deals are complete, others are still ongoing. Pending confirmation from the clubs involved, these transfers remain rumours. So, which of these rumours are currently making the rounds? Here are some of them:

With more than a month left to go on the transfer window, there is still room for big business moves, especially for clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham who need to improve their squads after a finish in the bottom five last season.
For Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea who are potentially title contenders, this transfer window will prove decisive. Hopefully, one of these clubs can pull a statement transfer like Erling Haaland who joined Manchester City and went on to win a treble in his debut season.
