5) Erling Braut Haaland

In this financially bonkers climate, you won’t find a better €5m spent than RB Salzburg signing Erling Haaland from Molde.

The 19-year-old has scored 15 goals in 13 Austrian Bundesliga appearances and eight in five Champions League appearances – becoming the first ever teenager to net in five consecutive games.

Losing Haaland in January is obviously a huge blow but he quadrupled their original investment in a year. Onto the next one!

4) Idrissa Gueye

If you don’t succeed at first, then try and try again. Which is exactly what Paris Saint-Germain did with Idrissa Gueye.

It took €30m to prise the Senegal international away from Everton and he has been a revelation – topping tackling and interception charts not only in France, but Europe as well.

All action, ball-winning midfielders like Gueye are crucial in today’s game and PSG have one of the best around.

3) Aaron Wan Bissaka

Manchester United have got a lot of things wrong recently, but spending €50m on Aaron Wan-Bissaka was absolutely right.

The 22-year-old lives for defending. His wins every tackle, nobody can get past him and if they do – his recovery speed and innate positional sense will stop any oncoming danger in its tracks.

Few in world football can lock down a whole flank like this. There’s a reason they call him the spider.

2) Frenkie de Jong

While Matthijs de Ligt struggles to adapt at Juventus, Frenkie de Jong has settled in as smooth as you’d like at Barcelona.

This effortlessly talented midfielder is the epitome of ‘Barça DNA’, with his feathered first touch, ability to drift past players and natural understanding of the game already shining through.

Yes, €75m is a lot of money. But he could be a regular fixture in their side for a decade – and we’re backing him to shine.

1) Romelu Lukaku

That’s right. We’re going there. Romelu Lukaku gets a lot of stick but he is officially our best transfer of 2019.

Antonio Conte finally got his man at the third time of asking – and the Belgian has already scored 14 goals in 22 appearances for Inter following his €80m move from Manchester United.

Whatever you think of him, he knows how to find the back of the net. His partnership with Lautaro Martínez could finally wrestle Scudetto dominance away from Juventus.
