It has been a positive enough start to the new League One season for Darren Moore and his Sheffield Wednesday side.

The Owls have accumulated 17 points from their opening nine games, a tally that leaves them four points off top-spot.

After what has been a difficult opening set of fixtures, the Yorkshire club are in fourth and have a platform to build upon as the season progresses.

Whilst we wait and see how the rest of the season pans out for Moore and Co. here, we take a look at two current players who may be eyeing up a January exit…

Callum Paterson

The addition of Michael Smith, combined with Josh Windass returning to full fitness means that Callum Paterson is currently seeing fewer minutes than he would have hoped.

Still a forward who offers a lot of desirable traits, he is a player that Moore can trust, however, there are at least three players ahead of him in the pecking order as things stand.

Joe Wildsmith

English Irish

The forward has less than 12 months left on his current deal at Hillsborough, meaning that the Owls may be willing to come to an agreement with any interested parties ahead of the January transfer window.

Josh Windass

Now, Josh Windass is a vitally important player as the Owls chase promotion back to the Championship.

However, if the Yorkshire club find themselves in a position where the chances of achieving promotion are slim, then it may make it difficult to keep hold of the 28-year-old.

A player of higher-level quality, if he continues the way he has started this season, then it would be no surprise if interest surfaces ahead of January.

Should Wednesday remain in the hunt for automatic promotion come January, it is less likely that a Championship move would come to fruition.
