The progress has been clear to see at Kenilworth Road this season with Luton Town remaining clear of the Championship relegation battle.

Given they survived in dramatic circumstances last term, that represents an impressive campaign for the Hatters and Nathan Jones will no doubt be looking to build on that positivity in the summer window.

There will likely be players leaving the club as well as arriving, however, and we’ve highlighted two who’d you imagine will be eyeing the exit door and pastures new…

Danny Hylton

The last two years will have been a frustrating period for Danny Hylton, having played less than 800 minutes of Championship football and failed to find the net once.

The forward’s contributions for Luton prior to that, scoring vital goals in their League Two and League One promotion campaigns, mean he’s still a popular figure but you feel it’s the right time for him to leave.

Hylton is out of contract in the summer and it’s hard to see the 32-year-old staying at Kenilworth Road beyond that point, something he’ll likely be happy about.

The forward has proven his quality in the EFL previously and shouldn’t be short of suitors in the lower divisions.

James Shea

Unlike Hylton, James Shea’s current deal runs beyond the end of the season but you feel the goalkeeper may be keen to leave Kenilworth Road in search of regular football.

The 29-year-old has played second fiddle to Simon Sluga for the majority of the season but showed his quality when brought in to replace him in December – keeping three clean sheets in six games.

Shea was a key man when Luton won promotion from League One in 2018/19 but is clearly behind Sluga in the pecking order at the moment and leaving the Hatters may be his only chance of regular senior football.

The shot-stopper’s deal is set to expire in 2022, so the Championship club will likely be open to cashing in on him rather than letting him leave for free at that point.
