Arsenal have been tipped to sign a marquee striker this summer, but they are yet to make any offers.
The Gunners have been monitoring Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres since his return from a knee surgery. In our view, he should be signed to boost the club’s chances of winning the Premier League.
The Swede was sensational in his debut campaign for Sporting last term with 43 goals and 15 assists from 53 appearances. He had a minor knee operation in May, but has returned in superb form and shape.
Gyokeres scored a hat-trick in a friendly against Farense last month before providing an assist versus Athletic Bilbao. He was also brilliant in the Portuguese Super Cup against Porto last night.
The 26-year-old provided two assists in the opening 24 minutes as Sporting raced into a 3-0 lead.
The first of those saw Gyokeres make a superb solo run from the half-way line before delivering an inch perfect left-footed pass in the box for Pedro Goncalves to find the back of the net.
Porto stunned the Portuguese champions with a stellar 4-3 comeback win in extra time, but Gyokeres still had a top outing and he managed to play through the entire game for Sporting.
Aside from his assists, Gyokeres won an impressive nine ground and aerial duels. He had a passing accuracy of 79 percent from 41 touches. He also completed three take-ons in 120 minutes.
Arsenal need a marquee striker to close the gap on Manchester City. Gyokeres will cost a premium fee, but he could be the answer with his fantastic all-round attacking attributes.
He can score and create goals with regularity. The former Coventry City striker is also good with the ball at his feet and can hold-up play to bring the wide attackers into the game.
Gyokeres has a release clause worth £85 million in his contract. It appears a no-brainer to sign him, considering his supreme fitness. He has never missed a club game through injury.
