The signing of Tanto Olaofe could have a knock-on effect on Gassan Ahadme's already limited game time

Gassan Ahadme's debut season at Charlton Athletic was tough to say the least.

Being brought in from Ipswich Town for £1 million and immediately being marked a "number one target" by Addicks manager Nathan Jones, the pressure was almost immediately on for the 24-year-old.

Unfortunately, after starting eight of the first nine games of the League One season last term, Ahadme made just three more starts, and none in 2025. Charlton may have secured promotion to the Championship, but the frontman's impact on making that happen was minimal at best.

Now, Nathan Jones has his sights set on pacey Stockport County striker Isaac 'Tanto' Oloafe, with Alan Nixon reporting that a £1.5 million fee has been agreed for the 25-year-old, who scored 10 times last season for the Hatters in all competitions.

And, if and when Olaofe does arrive at The Valley, you'd expect Ahadme's already limited game time to drop even further.

Tanto Olaofe, Charlton Athletic development may spell the end for Ahadme at Charlton

Despite being brought into the Charlton side as the main striker option just last summer, a failure to hit the ground running meant that Gassan Ahadme was reduced to bench appearances just three months into his Addicks career.

Ahadme netted just once in the opening seven League One games, despite starting all of them, and when Nathan Jones switched from a two-up-top formation to just one, Ahadme was dropped mostly in favour of Matty Godden.

Throughout the season, the likes of Miles Leaburn and Daniel Kanu, two academy graduates, were finding their way onto the bench in place of Ahadme, and if Tanto Olaofe is on his way to the club from Stockport County, as reported, then the 24-year-old will find himself even further down the pecking order.

Three of Olaofe's eight League One goals this season came as a substitute, so perhaps Jones is prioritising someone who can truly make as much of an impact off the bench as he does when he starts, something that Ahadme was unable to show last term.

A move away may be necessary for Gassan Ahadme this summer

Gassan Ahadme signed a four-year deal when he arrived at The Valley last summer, but a change of scenery may be needed for the 24-year-old already.

The former Ipswich man showed glimpses of talent in front of goal whilst on loan at Cambridge United during the 2023/24 campaign, which ultimately prompted Charlton to part ways with £1 million to bring him to the club.

Additionally, Ahadme's exploits in the FA Cup this past season, scoring three in as many games, serve to show that, when given opportunities, he can take them, but just at a rate less consistently than Nathan Jones perhaps would like him to.

Given the seven-figure fee it cost to bring him to the club, however, the Addicks will likely not make a sale this summer to avoid losing money on Ahadme.

Another loan could be likely for the 24-year-old to get some regular game time and possibly establish himself as a regular striker in League One while Charlton prepare for life in the Championship.
