Anthony Patterson has been a revelation for Sunderland for the last two and a half seasons now.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been Sunderland’s no.1 since the midway point of the 21/22 campaign, after doing well whilst out on loan with Notts County, then in the National League.

He has now gone on to make just under 100 appearances for the Black Cats, becoming an established Championship goalkeeper.

But his good form for Sunderland has seen bigger clubs take an interest. According to This Is Anfield, Liverpool are keen, and according to HITC, both Liverpool and Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Patterson ahead of a potential summer move.

So far this season he has kept 12 clean sheets, starting in all 42 of Sunderland’s Championship games.

Patterson could cost Liverpool and Arsenal £10-15 million

Speaking to FLW, Sunderland’s fan pundit Jack Austwicke said that he believes that an offer of around £10-15 million would represent a good deal for Sunderland if Patterson departs.

He said: “I think with Anthony Patterson, he divides a lot of opinion. I quite like him, he is a good goalkeeper for this level and obviously, he is still very young so I can see why big clubs are looking at him. Obviously not as a starter but as someone to bring in to be your second-choice option, which I could see him becoming in the Premier League for sure.

“I would value him at probably around £10m, you could maybe look at a little bit more than that for a young English goalkeeper, so I think maybe £10m-15m and we would have got a good deal, and we can sign a good replacement with that.

“With Patterson, you can not really stand in his way if that sort of opportunity comes knocking, as much as he probably won’t play that many games. But at huge clubs like that, that is just the absolute dream for anyone.

“So I think if a decent bid came in, we would probably accept that.”

Losing Patterson would be a big blow in what will be a massive summer for Sunderland

Any team losing their first-choice goalkeeper would see it as a massive blow, and Sunderland will be no different.

With Sunderland stagnating in their progress as a club this season, it would be hard for Patterson to turn down Liverpool or Arsenal if he had the choice, even if it was to a backup goalkeeper. The opportunity for the former England U21 international to play in the Premier League and European competitions would be too good of an opportunity to pass up on.

Sunderland also have a number of young, talented players that have all been rumoured to leave the club in the summer, along with Patterson.

Jack Clarke and Jobe Bellingham are set to be subject to intense interest in the summer transfer window.

It will be a massive summer of change, with the club having to fight on all fronts to keep their best players, whilst also searching for their new first-team manager.

Whatever happens in the summer, the first team players and staff look set to be completely different, as they try and prepare for another promotion push next season.
