Brazil v Chile

Scorers: Paquetá 46′

Hosts Brazil took on Chile at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos and the match was an end-to-end affair for most of the first half.

Despite less possession, Brazil sent waves of attack forward but the likes of Neymar, Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Jesus couldn’t break Chile’s backline.

After the break, Firmino came off for Lucas Paquetá and the substitute made it 1-0 after just 60 seconds on the pitch.

However, their luck would be cut short almost immediately after a high boot from Gabriel Jesus resulted in a straight red card.

Chile ramped up the pressure and thought they tied it up only to have it ruled offside and another two attempts stopped by Ederson.

As time went on, both teams continued to try and add to the scoreline but in the end, Brazil hold on and knock Chile out.

Peru v Paraguay

Scorers: Lapadula 21′, 40′, Yotún 80′; Gómez 11′, Alonso 54′, Ávalos 90′

Earlier over at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico, Peru and Paraguay went head-to-head in a Copa América classic.

Paraguay struck first as Gustavo Gómez scored 11 minutes in but Peru responded quickly and a brace from Gianluca Lapadula turned things around to make it 2-1.

Disaster then struck for Paraguay before the break as Gómez was shown a yellow and then was sent off for protesting.

After the break, the tempo slowed but 10-man Paraguay focused on turning their luck around and Júnior Alonso made it all square after 55 minutes.

Eventually, a shot from Yoshimar Yotún deflected off a defender to make it 3-2 Peru however, minutes before the full-time whistle chaos continued.

Peru went down to 10 as André Carrillo was sent off after a second yellow then in the 90th minute Gabriel Ávalos made it 3-3.

With no extra time in the tournament, the match went to penalties and Peru prevailed.

Copa América quarter-final action continues on Saturday as Uruguay face Colombia and Argentina take on Ecuador.

Peru and Brazil will face each other in the semi-finals on 5 July.
