Wycombe Wanderers are set to sign Walsall defender Taylor Allen, who has 18 goal contributions in League Two last season.
According to reports on Wednesday evening, Walsall star Taylor Allen is set to join League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers in a permanent switch.
The 25-year-old had an unbelievable season last term for Mat Sadler's side, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further seven from centre-back in 48 appearances, as his club were beaten in the League Two play-off final.
Now, according to reports by Alex Crook of talkSPORT, Allen will link up with Mike Dodds' side, who were also on the wrong end of a play-off defeat last season at the hands of Charlton Athletic in the semi-finals.
Following Walsall's failure to gain promotion from League Two, it seemed almost inevitable that interest in some of their star players would come, and that's proven to be the case for Allen.
The centre-back was a key player for the Midlands outfit last term, chipping in with an outrageous 18-goal contributions in the league, and would've undoubtedly felt rather hard done by having missed out on promotion to the third tier.
However, the latest reports from Alex Crook suggest that Allen will in fact be playing League One football next season, but that will be at Adams Park, as the defender is set to make the move from Walsall with just 12 months left on his contract.
Wycombe have suffered defensive casualties in the transfer window already, losing Sonny Bradley and Caleb Taylor at the end of their respective loan spells, and seeing Joe Low turn down a new contract in favour of a move to Huddersfield Town.
Following these setbacks, Wanderers are set to pull off a major coup in the transfer window by winning the race for the highly sought-after Saddlers star.
Allen will become Wycombe's fifth arrival of the summer, behind James Tilley, Dan Casey, Caolan Boyd-Munce, and Armando Junior Quitirna.
The Chairboys are showing no signs of stopping in the transfer window, with Feyenoord goalkeeper Mikki Van Sas also linked with a move to HP12.
After a disappointing end to last season, there is certainly no messing around from Wycombe and Dodds. The Chairboys are clearly looking to be right at the top of League One again this season, and are making moves in the transfer market to ensure they are.
Following the losses of Bradley, Taylor, and Low, many wondered how the Wanderers backline would look on the first match day of 2025/26, and it seems we're finally about to get our answer.
Allen will join a defensive unit of summer signing from Motherwell, Casey, and the second most expensive player in the club's history, Anders Hagelskjaer. These three will likely be the main three centre-back competing for minutes next season.
With the number of goal contributions the 25-year-old had last season, he offers Wycombe a whole new outlet going forward, as well as some excellent defensive cover, making Allen the perfect addition that the team has been crying out for.
