FLW's Wrexham fan pundit has discussed the possibility of a £2 million January deal involving Plymouth Argyle
Wrexham are eyeing a move for Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie but face competition from promotion rivals Huddersfield Town.
It was exclusively revealed by Football League World that the two League One sides are both interested in the striker this January.
It is believed that the Red Dragons are willing to pay the £2 million buyout in the player's contract.
Phil Parkinson will be aiming to straighten his team this winter with the team competing for promotion to the Championship.
When asked about the possibility of completing this £2 million deal, FLW’s Wrexham fan pundit Liam Grice warned against the move.
While he believes that Hardie is a good player, he is unsure about the prospect of spending so much to sign him.
“There’s no doubt there’s a good player in there,” Grice told Football League World.
“Obviously, he’s been crucial for Plymouth in these last few seasons, especially in that promotion season from League One to the Championship.
“The whole squad has struggled in the Championship.
“I think, for £2 million, the price tag is a little bit too much.
“He does know how to score goals, but I think, for where we are right now, we need to be a little bit smarter with the money we’re spending.
“I’m not really sure spending £2 million on a player that’s scored one goal all season is necessarily the answer to our problems.
“I wouldn’t say he’s worth it, to be honest.”
Wrexham are currently third in the League One table, two points behind the top two.
A £2 million deal for Hardie would be a lot of money for a club like Wrexham, even accounting for their level of spending in the last couple of years.
While an additional forward this month would be a good idea given their league position and the impact the injury to Jack Marriott has had, this would still be a risky signing.
Hardie has not enjoyed a positive season, but has shown he can do it in the Championship, scoring 12 times in the division in the previous campaign.
