Charlton Athletic have agreed a fee with Reading for Harvey Knibbs as they close in on yet another signing.
Having gained promotion back to the second-tier last season, Charlton Athletic are looking to build a squad to be competitive in the Championship and the Addicks are now reportedly closing in on the signing of Harvey Knibbs from Reading.
Nathan Jones led Charlton back to the Championship last season by winning the League One play-offs, with a slender 1-0 defeat of Leyton Orient in the final at Wembley Stadium.
It was then rumoured that Jones was a target for Cardiff City, who had just been relegated to League One, but the former Luton Town boss instead signed a new five-year deal at The Valley.
Charlton have since embarked upon a busy summer transfer window in which they have majorly refreshed their squad as they seek to ensure they steer clear of falling back down into the third-tier.
Continuing that rebuild, it has now been reported that the Athletic are closing in on a move for Reading forward Knibbs to bolster their forward line.
According to Pete O’Rourke, Charlton have now agreed a fee with Reading for the signing of former Cambridge United attacker Harvey Knibbs.
It has been suggested by O’Rourke that the move is now set to be finalised this week, as Charlton prepare for their 2025/26 opener against Watford at The Valley on Saturday 9th August.
Knibbs could therefore complete a move and potentially be involved in their final pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday, which takes place at Roots Hall against National League outfit Southend United.
Knibbs had been expected to move on from the Royals throughout this summer, after an impressive campaign in Berkshire last year as Reading missed out on the top six and the play-off places on the final day of the campaign.
The attacker, who can play up-front as well as in attacking midfield and even off the flank, notched 14 goals in 43 League One appearances last year to back up an 11-goal league campaign in the previous season.
The arrival of Knibbs follows on from what has been a busy and seemingly very impressive summer transfer window so far for Jones and Charlton.
As well as Knibbs, they have also added a few other attackers who starred in League One last season, such as Rob Apter from Blackpool and Isaac Olaofe from Stockport County, whilst League One’s 2024/25 top scorer, Charlie Kelman, has moved from Queens Park Rangers.
Elsewhere across the park, another star of the third-tier, attacking midfielder Sonny Carey, has joined on a free transfer from Blackpool, whilst Amari’i Bell is one of three players to move from Luton, alongside both Thomas Kaminski and Reece Burke.
Joe Rankin-Costello has also joined, moving from Blackburn Rovers, as Charlton reshape and mould their squad to support the ambition of handing Jones a lengthy new contract.
Knibbs is now set to bolster an attack that already boasts some impressive talents such as Tyreece Campbell, Miles Leaburn and Matt Godden, the latter of whom scored 22 goals across all competitions for Charlton last season.
