A week and a half ago, AC Milan pulled out of a deal to sign Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen after the striker’s medical raised concerns.

Instead, the 24-year-old striker completed a Deadline Day loan move to Werder Bremen, with his new club mindful of the need to carefully manage his workload given his injury history.

Before joining Leverkusen, Boniface had already suffered two cruciate ligament tears, and he has also spent significant time on the sidelines in Germany due to smaller setbacks.

“We are aware of the issue and have gathered extensive information,” Werder Bremen head of professional football Clemens Fritz told Bild.

“We carried out a medical check with our people in Leverkusen and took a close look at him. He knows his body very well and knows how to handle it. Managing his workload will definitely be an important factor.”

"I don’t know what happened in Milan. We have to make our own assessment. Every transfer carries risks, and any player can get injured. We are convinced about his fitness; he was able to complete the full preseason. He’s in great shape.”
