...Victor Boniface: “We expect that he’ll bring all his quality out on the pitch. Having spoken to him, we get the impression that he is very eager to get started. He can’t wait to get out there and play for us, of that we have no doubt. We’re over the moon that we managed to convince him to join Werder.”

...the transfer process: “When the opportunity to sign Victor came about, we were all in agreement that we had to take it. You do have to be patient though as there is always risk involved with something like this. We’ve always said that we go about things doing what we believe is the right thing for Werder both in a sporting sense and financially. A big thanks as well to Leverkusen for their speed in helping to find a good solution.”

...Boniface’s medical: “Everything went well and it was pretty relaxed. We actually did the medical in Leverkusen and the plan is to have him in Bremen tomorrow around midday. We’ll train in the morning that day, and so he won’t be able to get out on the pitch just yet.”

...Boniface’s former teammate Senne Lynen: “It’s important for us to get the full picture when making a transfer. When you have the opportunity to ask former teammates what the player is like in the dressing room, then you enquire. Of course we’ve spoken to Senne just to get an impression and he was positive about the idea. He said that Victor is a good lad and a team player.”

...the transfer window: “It’s been a hectic few days and I know there has been some scepticism around things. We always do what we believe is right and so we waited a bit to be completely convinced that we were signing the right player before we took the risk. We’re happy with the squad we have and can look forward to the upcoming weeks and months.”

...the loan deals: “We have a lot of players with plenty of potential here. We have to keep an eye on the financial side of things and how we put together our budget. We’ve gained quality with the guys we’ve brought in. Some of the other players have options to buy in their agreements which the club can decide on – the players don’t have to leave. We have also made transfers and invested in the squad. After COVID and then relegation we don’t have the same income from TV rights as before. There is a lot of money being spent in the transfer market right now, so we always just have to see what we’re able to do, but we’ve got a good feeling.”

...players leaving: “The transfer market is still open in some countries. We haven’t had any offers where we really had to think about them. We’ve said that when it makes sense both financially and for the player, then we’ll discuss things – but this hasn’t happened.”
